 So I read this BEAUTIFUL, WITTY & if I must say, GIVING WISE INSIGHT- short story, “Shock Tactics” by Saki.

It is about a girl named Ella McCarthy & a boy, she likes, Bertie Heasant who is going to be 20 year old soon & Bernie’s mother.

His mom opens every letter that comes to the house, whoever it’s for.

Now, Bertie is unable to do anything about it & his friend, Ella is unhappy about it. She wants to communicate via letters without giving away their privacy.

Clovis, Bertie’s friend can’t see his friend so gloomy & sad. Clovis tries to persuade Bertie to have a word with his mom & put his foot down but seeing his friend helpless..he retires.

You haven’t used the right kind of argument..

A day or two later, a letter addressed Bertie lands at his house & as expected is opened by his mom.

His mom, Mrs. Heasant was one of those empty-minded individuals to whom other people’s affairs are perpetually interesting.

A sequence of letters follow, which makes Mrs.Heasant crazy.

✅ In the end, she promises to never open Bernie’s letters again.

THE TALES OF UNEARTHLY ENCOUNTERS
by
@deepnaskar_ @24by7publishing

🕳 118 pages, 11 short stories.

🌸 Do you like to read/ watch paranormal/ horror/ fantasy fiction❓

If yes, then you are in for a treat!

🕳 These short stories had me glued! scared the hell out of me.. gave me goosebumps.. they messed up with my brain wiring.. n had a strong hangover.
I LOVED em!!

🕳 These stories had beings, happenings, phenomenon which are beyond the realm of scientific understanding and explanation, of the natural world. They waver somewhere between real and surreal, a misty place which should not be treaded even in nightmares.

🕳 Although each story belongs to the same genre, still they are so unique and fun to imagine & experience. It’s like watching 11 different chaotic_scary_intriguing stories, back to back! In the end, you are wasted and lost!

🕳 The basic premise is FEAR. Fear of the unknown and the author has tapped it wonderfully.

🕳 Writing short stories is a tight rope walk and writing 11 magnetic short stories is not eating a piece of cake. Its tough. Applaud the author for that.

Have you ever feared rain❓
Have you ever feared,as a child, being left out, alone at school❓
Do you think something wierd can happen when you travel alone, to an unknown place❓
Have you ever feared your reflection or shadow❓
⛳not giving any more spoilers, read it to enjoy it fully!!

4/5 for the storyline.

Food and faith.

Genre: Food & Spirituality.
#readwithharpercollins
_____
FOOD AND FAITH explores the powerful yet intimate intertwining of food with faith, history, myth and identity.

A very interesting combination, indeed.

FAITH in general, gives us strength, irrespective of the religion we belong to, or the teachings we follow.

The author, visits 15 pilgrimage or iconic places of worship in India. She decodes the history, the myths & the lore, the practices & traditions and also brings into light the special (sacred)food associated with them, adding her own personal experiences, her thoughts, her inquisitive mind- asking questions & answering them herself.

✍️Shoba Narayan is an award- winning author & columnist who writes about food, travel, fashion, art and culture.

It’s an 270+ pages read .

A very detailed read, with descriptive write up on the place & everything associated with it.

I loved the parts where the author brings in her own experiences, her thoughts, her views & opinions.

There’s an index, for ease, at the end.

The writing style is not for beginners with quite some words which add to your vocab.
It’s chirpy, bubbly, oozing with energy & human curiosity & dilemmas.

From Udipi to Kashi, Ajmer to Palani, Mumbai to Madurai, Jaipur to Goa, Thiruvananthapuram to Amritsar, Puri to Kumbh Mela and Kerala to Patan & Mathura- it covers the length & breadth of the country, literally!
______

 After reading this book, you would have gained more knowledge about your own religion & of other faiths, more wisdom on the history, practices, teachings & Prasad. Also you may have got few answers to the the various webs of thought in your mind regarding faith, spirituality & religion.
The human mind is an inquisitive, question bank. The author covers her questions brilliantly, in the book & brain storms for answers, perfectly.

It helped me gain insight on a lot of things which were alien to me before. ______

What is the role of spirituality in your life?
Is religion a part of your identity or does it make you uncomfortable?
Do you pray? Do you follow rituals to pray? I
Is the food  given at the “place of faith” sacred to you?

P. S. : The author has accepted that while  a few other faiths make cameo appearances, this is largely a book on Hinduism.
totally agree & felt it throughout the read. Nonetheless, I loved devouring it at a snail’s pace, absorbing everything, gradually.

READ IT to gain wider insight on the man-made religions & traditions and find some answers to the questions which have always troubled your mind.
