A year without summer. By Shreya Laha.

Genre #fiction #sciencefiction

#qotd Do you like to read thick, detailed books or short ones❓
#qotd Does reading Sci-fi excite you❓

The 3 most important elements of a sci-fi are;
➡️ speculation about humanity’s future,
➡️ the impact of science & technology on people
&
➡️ setting is in an alternate time & space.

Sci-Fi means whose content is imaginative but based on science. It relies heavily on scientific facts, theories & principles as support for it’s setting- characters, themes, & plot- lines, which is what makes it different from fantasy.

 And this book #ayearwithoutsummer is a perfect Sci-Fi read!

 It has all the elements & does complete justice to the genre.

 The Cover is pretty catchy & the colour blue being a cool colour very well explains the Title, a year without summer..

 The research, the detailing, the plot/story line, narration is On-Point.

 I wish the editing was a bit better, it would have made it a perfect Sci-Fi read!

 The story encompasses time travel, teleportation, telekinesis, extra terrestrial lifeforms, space travel & exploration, parallel universe, fictional worlds and much more..!!

Published in Jan.2020 by Bigfoot Publications, this 348 page MIND-BOGGLING read is available for INR 285/- @amazondotin & for INR 149/- @amazonkindle

✍️ The author has half a dozen published short stories, a book NOT WORTH LIVING FOR under his name. He likes writing acrostic poems.

 There are separate pages for Translation & References.

 It is a thick book & deals with both history & an imagined future.

 The story keeps on shifting timelines & ends on a cliffhanger.

 It looks like a Sci-Fi movie!

There is an element of fantasy which is kind of of amusing but it is brilliant piece of, awe-inspiring work.

  1. Many congratulations Sir on the release of your third book, Double One Zero: Out Of Shadows, which released in Jan 2020. How do you feel about doing a hattrick, so as to say with respect to writing books?
    Ans : Thrid times a charm is so true for me because Double One Zero (110) – Out of the Shadows, my third book, is actually my first fully fiction story.
    My earlier books were about my childhood memories & my personal experiences during college & corporate life. With this hattirck I have ventured into the world of fiction & I am quite excited.
  2. ‌Which Author, Indian or International are you most inspired by?
    Ans : Chetan Bhagat

‌3. Please name your favourite three books? Ans : a)One Indian Girl
b)The Chalk Line
c)Matilda

‌4. What do you think are the main qualities of a thriller?
Ans : Clear characterization is the key to any good book & for thrillers along with characterization the key to a good thriller is a good mystery which leaves the readers guessing till the end.

‌5. We have heard of a sequel on the cards. When can we expect it to be out?
Ans : Sequel is definitely on the cards & it is going to be more thrilling than the first one.

‌6. Which genre do you aim to explore in the near future?
Ans : Sci-fi

  1. ‌Do you still write your daily happenings in a journal?
    Please share an inspiring quote or few lines or an incident to boost the morale of our readers and inspiring authors alike.
    Ans : I do try to post regularly on Insta & FB & off late I have posted a lot about faith as a way to overcoming barriers. Faith is the most powerful thing there is & self-faith is the key to success. If you cant have faith in self then you are surely poised for failure.

Thankyou so much for your time. Eagerly awaiting your next book release. All the very best for it’s success.

#qotd Have you read a nice story line with very bad editing, especially self-published ones❓
#qotd Are you confident about a good read based on the publishing House associated with the book❓
#qotd Do you reread your drafts before making it public❓

“The first draft of anything is called shit.”- Ernest Hemingway.

Noone likes a half-baked  cake/book or one which is a maze of errors & typos.

This book, #writerstoolkit is about #editing #selfediting & #editors

This books talks about the actual meaning of editing.
Editing doesn’t mean;
 asking your friend, colleague or eng teacher to read & correct your work..
 it also is much more than downloading a software for the purpose.

 Editing should be done by a person who is not biased to your work & is essentially a professional.
 The software is going to pick up technical errors, will do spell check but it cannot sort out emotional errors. Editing requires human intervention. For eg; for a machine, spellings for both Die & Dye are correct but the context can be completely different which cannot be picked by a machine.

 What if the writer or blogger thinks, his work is perfect & feels nobody knows it more than him..? Is editing still required?
 Has it ever happened that you have been looking for something the whole day & someone else finds it in a matter of minutes? Well, our mind tricks us..& for that we need editors.

This book is written in a conversational style, like the author is teaching the basics, advising the reader on various fronts & that too in easy, eloquent language.

It deals with questions like, how to find the right editor & things to do that will save money before you submit your manuscript for editing.. it also talks about EDITING CONTRACTS & NDA..

Editing helps shield mistakes & errors & correct them before reaching the readers, the public domain.

Although I have interacted with her a no. of times, not verbally..though.. I felt this book is speaking for itself in an earnest, chirpy way to prove some very important points & enlighten in the process.

A GOOD, INSIGHTFUL READ.
It is part of a series, please check the images.

The author herself is a WRITER as well as an EDITOR with books like
 Dreams, Desires, Struggles & Triumphs
and
 Generously Your’s: His gift from beyond.
Her book  Diya’s Desires is Coming Soon.

Mrs A’s Indian Gentlemen by Dawood Ali McCallum

Genre: Fiction, General & literary Fic.

‘I think attention is going to be drawn no matter what,’ Billy pointed out. ‘We’re three- well, two and a half- Indians walking through a town that hasn’t seen  a foreigner since they hanged a monkey 150 years ago thinking it was Napoleon.’

Written by Neil McCallum who writes as Dawood Ali McCallum,
Published by hachette INDIA in Dec.2019,
448 pages in volume, it sure is a thick book but doesn’t feel like one!

The Articulate Narration & exuberantly lively & amusing style of writing, makes it a fluid read. It also has few vernacular words sprinkled here & there for effective impact.

Dawood Ali McCallum has authored 4 books;
The Final Charge in 2014;
The Peacock in the Chicken Run in 2009;
Taz in 2007 &
The Lord of Alijan in 1997.
This is his 5th book.
He lives in SWINDON.

The Title is peculiar, to say the least but is perfectly suitable to the context of the story.

The Cover is designed by Monica Reyes & is vibrant & catchy. The Railway tracks crisscrossing in the image, serving 3 cups of tea represent the 3 main characters & the story, pretty well.

The Story begins in the year 1943 when a war is raging across Europe.. There is overload on the Great Western Railway (GWR) to send & receive supplies & men. Three men, Railway Er Billy from Gwalior State Railway; Vincent Rosario from Bombay, Baroda & Central India Railway & Dr. Akaash Ray from Calcutta are called for, to SWINDON.

The Engrossing tale is of these 3  “Indian Gentlemen” in foreign land..how they (coloured ppl) are received by the white people..what was the culture like in those days.. For 1 whole year, what kind of encounters & adventures do they experience which makes this book Enjoyable & Unputdownable & how their visit to London ends.. Do they return back to India? Or stay.. Are they still single..? Will they be able to come back safe & sound..

The Character Sketch of each of them is beautifully drawn & explicitly explained & is very interesting.

As the blurb says,
Sparkling with wit, #mrsasindiangentlemen is a rocking tale of misadventure that delightfully portrays what happens when cultures collide.

Wonderfully well- written, worth the time

Available @amazondotin for INR 394/- & @amazonkindle for INR 367.50/-
