My Take:

The book is the 8th one in the Mosaic Collection.

I won’t lie, I totally totally love a HaPpY EnDiNg..I mean, who doesn’t!

Have we not all grown on fairytales?! But..this is a modern day fairytale wherein the princess, the girl is very much independent and sweeps the prince off his feet to end up living happily ever after!

The book is much more than that!

It’s the story of a very courageous girl, ginger (oh I remembered you so much @ginger while reading this book) ..who (after the death of her parents) lives with her grandfather & also runs their family cafe, Jukebox cafe..where the income is dwindling & staff turnouts are increasing due to competition.. She’s worried how will she take care of her grandpa in the future.. Grandpa places forth a request for her to look for his long lost wife, Irene, supposedly not alive..but he believes she is alive.

He is showing signs of dementia and is scared, in case he forgets his wife or his granddaughter leaves him in his old age..

He is a veteran- from Army Air Corps in WW II &  hasalways hidden his tender heart underneath his gruffness.

Her grandpa has always been her rock & she didn’t expect to lose him to anything besides death when his time comes..but..

In all this turmoil, there’s her love story that’s blooming but with uncertainties from hurts & fears from the past.

Will she end up with the love of her life❓
Will grandpa Walter be able to reach his Wife Irene, if she’s alive❓
What about his dementia❓Will he forget Ginger & Irene❓

There are many twists and turns in the story to keep one alive with speculation as to what will happen next!

To add up, there a wonderful support  dog named Rabbit to comfort grandpa!

The story and the scenes need to be historically accurate and also relevant, starting with the portrayals, languages used, costumes, nomenclature, and habits.

A well-researched and written historical thriller is a journey into the past, teleporting the reader to the places as the scenes shift.

This book talks about the time wherein East India Company reigned in India. The 1850’s.. EIC wanted to exploit more and more of Hindostan/ India ..both geographically and otherwise.. rob the country of it’s riches, land, labour, resources and most of all, it’s FrEeDoM.

How the EIC manipulates the greed and insecurities of a few people to accomplish it’s motive, is written extensively in this book..

How the lives of many people change, some for the better and other for the worse, can be well experienced in the beautiful narrative.

The end is somewhat a cliffhanger, an open ending to be continued in the next part.

The book although lengthy, is well researched and beautifully put on paper and ceases to look like a debut one.

This book is 1st part of the Myna Series.

#aotd I feel Poetry is a SPECIAL KIND of genre and I believe a very DIFFICULT one TO MASTER.

Penning your thoughts in the form of a poem, in a few words is TOUGH.

To be EFFECTIVE, the words need to TUG AT THE HEARTSTRINGS and NUMB THE BRAIN!

They must be capable of giving you  GOOSEBUMPS and at the same time give one FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

They are capable of BRINGING BACK MEMORIES, make one NOSTALGIC and also make one WONDER about the future.

D̤̮I̤̮S̤̮C̤̮L̤̮A̤̮I̤̮M̤̮E̤̮R̤̮- These are my personal thoughts and view point.

This book, 퐋퐈퐊퐄 퐁퐋퐎퐎퐃 퐎퐍 퐓퐇퐄 퐁퐈퐓퐓퐄퐍 퐓퐎퐍퐆퐔퐄- 퐝퐞퐥퐡퐢 퐩퐨퐞퐦퐬 does all this  so effectively & more!!

Vishwajyoti Ghosh is a designer, artist and graphic novelist. Author of the graphic novel Delhi Calm and Times New Roman and Countrymen, a visual book of contemporary classified postcards, Ghosh is also the curator of This Side That Side: Restorying Partition, an anthology of graphic narratives on the Partition. Ghosh lives and works in Delhi.

The book/ poems talks about Delhi & everything associated.

The poems are both in Hindi & English and the words have a life of their own..in tandem with the illustrations.

I read it, very slowly, grasping & absorbing each word..context.. pondering on the Delhi I knew..& enjoying the book & relishing the after taste.

162 pages and 93 poems.
This book is a must for anyone who has lived in Delhi, irrespective of the time period because Delhi makes you, it’s own in a very short period of time.

For me, it is pure NoStALgiA & I will always treasure it for the same.

“In times like these, Believe in His everlasting power. He will rain down His loving shower. Call Him now; don’t be a fence dancer. In times like these, He has the answer!”..
The writer offers variety and inspiration through his words. He reitirates the fact, that God is the ultimate saviour and is always eager to help his children.

The second section has Poetic Prayer Forms and is especially for individuals with various ailments. It has prayers for specific issues or problems. For example..
“Heavenly Father, Bless all parents of students. Guide and comfort them in taking care of children. Touch and comfort parents who have lost children. Look over the schools they attend and guard them. Protect them from shooters and school violence.”

The third section talks about Invented short spiritual poetic forms. It talks about the various forms of poetry. Here’s an excerpt, a tanka quintet;
“Placed in a walled tomb, He did not die from their wounds. Dark days passed, no word. Resurrection on the third. Now they lift their hands in praise.”

The fourth section is called Epulaeryu Poems. It consists of epulaeryu spiritual septet poems. The form and style were created by Joseph S. Spence Sr. himself. The form and style were developed based on his worldwide travels while serving with the US Army. Here’s a sneak peek;
Pottage of lentil and bread. Thank You, Lord, now fed With wheat, barley, and flour. Filled cups this hour Overflow with grace. Bless this taste. Yes!

The fifth and the last part of the book has Glossary of Spiritual Poetic Forms.
This defines the forms and styles of poems read on the previous pages. Some of the definitions are in depth. Some specify dates of creation, names of the inventors, and revisions into another form or style. A perfect ending to this awesome, insightful, positive book.
