UNDER THE MANGO TREE
By
@binapillai

This is one review copy that I had myself, blatantly asked for & the author graciously obliged 
__________

 I would RECOMMEND this book for around 22+ age group & feel it would be more popular with middle-age group.

It is 224 pages long, written in a SIMPLE but very DESCRIPTIVE style.
___________

 The book begins with an era which was a bit conservative, 1975, wrt women.. the protagonist Diya, is a smart, diligent student.. she wants to pursue education further & is still experiencing the early soulful days of first love, when her mother decides to marry her off to Rajagopal (10yrs older) of a conservative family.
Her mother is unsupportive of her, from the very beginning till the very end‼️ But her grandmother used to always tell her that study well & become financially independent before you get married. See the irony here❓‼️ And as fate would have it, Diya learns this valuable lesson years later, the hard away.
Her husband is a perfect male chauvinist, who is irresponsible, unkind & wrathful to her & indifferent to her family.. Although she tries to make peace but all her efforts go in vain..even after having two kids..
Eventually she starts looking for things to keep her occupied & also finds a solution to deal with his attitude/ handle him.
In the meanwhile, kids are growing up but they feel alienated near their father..
She keeps on remembering her 1st love, Aditya throughout..& also catches a glimpse of him, now & then, coincidentally.
After skipping many places, Diya & Rajagopal finally settle in Mumbai. Here Diya takes a stand for herself, with much difficulty & starts working. How she becomes financially independent, how she meets Aditya again & what is the role of the mango tree..for that READ the book‼️
Coming back of Aditya in her life tells her that not all men are bad. History repeats itself when Diya’s daughter gets married & suffers a similar fate but Diya stands like a rock for her & her  Dyslexic grandchild.

The story is full of emotions & is an inspiring account of how Diya gives a fit reply to all the challenges, life throws at her.
It also shows how true love is so blissful & magical..
Also, how a woman can never be free of her responsibilities & duties..

Can a woman live the life of her dreams without any baggage ❓

The book is a wonderful journey of Diya’s life & the ending is the icing on the cake.

Read it to enjoy this realistic life journey of Diya & get inspired along the way‼️

Ruskin Bond’s OUR TREES STILL GROW IN DEHRA.

It’s 30th Aug, already..!!
August is slipping away for September, to announce its arrival‼️

This has always been my most favourite time of the year, here in India, my bEaUtiFull country with varied seasons & climate‼️

And READIng a RB book, calls for feelings of consonance with nature..

Have you ever planted a tree & revisited it years later to watch it bloom happily❓
(that’s the crux of the title..)
____________

This book, although a thin one- 108 pages, took me sometime to finish..to relish..to devour its content..in a single sitting.

First published in 1991, it has RB’s journey in the form of 16 ❤️heart-
touchingly stories, few of which I had read before in his other books like Time Stops At Shamli but nonetheless I loved revisiting em‼️

If read casually, RB’s work provide a quick respite from the real life stress
&
when understood deeply, they have profound lessons to learn & relish‼️

For eg., there’s a story abt a beggar & RB has jotted down his teachings in this bk itself, the way ✍️I write down the lessons I learn from his books‼️

There’s also the 1st short story written by RB when he was 16.

He also mentions his diary from 1951 which formed the nucleus of his 1st novel, the room on the roof.

Did you know, he had a warrant issued for writing an allegedly obscene short story!
_____________

Leaving you with the THOUGHT which touched me the most..

DREAM

The difficult time comes, Afterwards..when we have achieved our dream.

because it’s easy to lose it all, to let someone take it away from you..or we may become greedy, or careless and start taking everything for granted, and- poof!- suddenly the dream has gone, vanished‼️

Another gem, by JEFF BOND‼️

Dear Durwood
by Jeff Bond.

Book Tour August 1 – September 30, 2020.

Book two in the epic Third Chance Enterprises series, Dear Durwood is a standalone mystery pitting uncompromising principle against big city greed.

Durwood Oak Jones is a man of few indulgences. One he does allow is a standing ad in Soldier of Fortune magazine soliciting “injustices in need of attention.”

This month’s bundle of letters includes one from Carol Bridges, mayor of the dusty, blue-collar town of Chickasaw, Texas. For nearly a century, Chickasaw has relied on the jobs and goodwill of Hogan Consolidated, a family-run manufacturer of industrial parts. Now East Coast lawyers and investment bankers have taken aim at the company. The citizens of Chickasaw fear it may be acquired or bankrupted, leading to massive layoffs — effectively destroying the town.

Durwood and his trusty bluetick coonhound, Sue-Ann, fly to Texas to see what can be done. They find a young CEO born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Factory workers with hammers. A good woman, Carol Bridges, who knows her town is being cheated but can’t get to the bottom of how. And lawyers.

Dirty, good-for-nothing lawyers.
