The Mother Of All Parties- #Harpercollinsindia

THE MOTHER OF ALL PARTIES.
__________
261 pages, 41 chapters & not a single page that lets down the tempo/ rhythm of the read.

The book, although a debut, is fabulously written. I loooved the writing style & the vocabulary sure added to my dictionary.
_________
PAM (Paramsundari), w/o Raj Rajagopalam is part of a rich women’s club known as Kitty- Kats & has an interior co. Glitterbug too.
RAJ, is a moral man, a teetotaller & known as Mr. Clean.
They have two kids, TIKKY (Avantika) & SID (Siddhartha) & CAESAR (a golden retriever).

Now Raj, is 33rd richest Indian in DUBAI. He worked under LAV SARIN earlier, who is at 58th position right now. His wife, HONEY, part & leader of Kitten-Kats can’t seem to digest that & her wrath comes out on Pam.

Their 20th marriage anniversaries are approaching & each wants to out-do the other.
The entire book keeps on running on how many days are left for Pam’s anniversary but in between that A LOT HAPPENS!

It’s like a rollercoaster, a fun ride full of surprises & revelations!
___________
It talks about dullness in marriage, partners busy in their own lives, extra-marital slings, life of high profile people of Dubai, theme parties, glamour & showoff, brands, drama, relationship with teenage kids, emotions & More!

The story, skips timelines a few times to give us a sneak peek into Pam’s childhood years, her ex-flame(KABEER DAR) & also the initial years of her married life..

She feels Raj is indifferent towards her, Tikky is rebellious, she is involved with Kabeer again, there’s a singing camp that Raj has involved her into, & to top it all, she can’t think of any theme to throw The Mother Of All Parties!
___________
What all happens during the course of all this, that teaches Pam a few lessons, is what this read is all about?

What happens to Pam & Raj’s Marriage, with Kabeer in the picture?
Does Tikky & Pam’s relationship improve?
What about the singing camp, does anything imp. happens there?
And how did Honey’s party go & was Pam able to outdo her?

Intricate details are taken care of.
Vernacular language is also used gingerly.

It was a fun & insightful read!

Crossing lines.

CROSSING LINES by @melanieweiss @rosehippublishing is DEDICATED to a Tragic Incident;

Feb. 14, 2018.
17 students & teachers of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida- lost their lives
&
17 we’re injured
at the hands of a former student armed with an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle.
__________
Genre: YA Fiction.

The author has very tactfully, intermingled a beautiful high school romance with the happenings in the real world.
It questions;
-the safety of kids in schools,
-the second amendment,
-banning guns and MUCH MORE.

The story is weaved around ALLI, who is best friends with SIMON. BRANDON PAULSON & Alli like each other.
They are 5 months away from High School Graduation.

The narration is from two point of views, interchangeably, Alli & Brandon.

The writing style is peppy & full of slangs, as would a normal school kid would use in his/ her talks & texts.
To accommodate any ignorance, a glossary is given right in the beginning of the book.
Eg: BFN- bye for now

There is a quick mention of Pawn Stars, which took me back memory lane when I used to watch that show.

The basic premise is;
High schl romance between Alli & Brandon and how this happening on feb. 14 causes a rift between them due to different political views.

Teenagers & their emotions are well depicted..confused & eager to react & form judgements.

Some believe, taking down rights of self defense, of gun ownership away from everyone because of the actions of one deranged person is not fair
WHILE
Others believe banning guns is the only solution.

There is utmost confusion & insecurity at the core of it all.

We need to realise WE LIVE IN A BUBBLE WHICH CAN BURST ANYTIME.

The story ends with the Prom Night & a HEA.
___________
What is liked abt it was, how the author depicted the effect of real world happenings on the people, the students & their families;
How she showed the various hues of emotions a teenager goes thru
And
How she has weaved a YA cute story around a very grave & saddening incident.

I am happy to have read it

___________
 “Intricate, complex, and devilishly clever… like reading a burning stick of dynamite.”

 This book, is fast ⚡paced & a quick (352 pg) exciting read!
__________
MIRRORS MAKE SUCH FALSE PROMISES. THEY TELL YOU: LOOK HERE, AND YOU’LL SEE YOURSELF. BUT THAT’S THE FIRST LIE.

I am so amazed at myself & at the author’s writing style, so simple yet so enticing.
Tbh I have never read murder mysteries or thrillers of any sort more than Nancy Drew & Famous Five in middle grade. I don’t know, I somehow lost interest in this genre.
But reading this one, got me up & alert, as if I am the one responsible to unearth this mystery! 
I read mixed takes on this book but for me it was not at all twisted or confusing or with too many POVs. There was nothing too much, that I did not love.
There was a reality check, money-power-dupe, emotions, resentment-regret- revenge & call for justice & retribution.

So the STORY is pretty simple, wherein a pharmaceutical co. markets it’s drug as a miracle drug for ppl who have infertility issues & crave a biological child. The company never reveals the side effects of the drug & plays with the fears & emotions of it’s patients.
The whole gig is to bring the truth out in the open.

All said, it’s the EXECUTION of the story, the main characters: Nora( Brooke) & Gabe(Liam) & also the supporting characters that make this read awesome.

It also talks abt various life lessons, briefly, throughout..like..
We all have our reasons for being who we are.
Speaking lies, enacting various role, changing enactments- that’s how I have survived.

I also liked the mention again n again, wherein Nora/ Brooke is influenced by her mother’s words throughout her life until she finds out… 狼

Loved it!
⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️
P. S. Remember the author has already won 5 Agatha Awards!
